Bouncing Back from Drama and Trauma: Empowering Teens in Foster Care to Build Resilience

About the Course

Today’s teenagers face numerous challenges as they transition into adulthood. Challenges such as building healthy relationships, achieving educational goals, and learning to cope with and accept disappointments are a common part of growing up. For youth in foster care, who may experience increased vulnerability to problem behaviors or mental health issues, these challenges can have an even more devastating effect.

This workshop focuses on the question: What is resilience, and how can it empower teens in foster care to thrive? Participants will explore the ten components of resilience, discovering how these elements can uniquely support youth in care. By the end of the session, participants will have identified common barriers to resilience for teens in foster care and developed strategies to help these young adults cultivate the habits, attitudes, and skills needed to become resilient teenagers.

Learning Objectives

1. Participants will define the quality of resiliency and list the characteristics associated with being resilient.
2. Participants will learn and understand the process of resiliency and how to help youth overcome barriers to developing and maintaining resilience.
3. Participants will develop strategies to help teens who are considered at-risk teens to develop resiliency.
4. This session is for Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiters and others who support foster youth. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to help foster youth develop habits and skills for lifelong resilience.
