Burners, Gats, and Straps: Understanding Youth Gun Violence

About the Course

Each day in the United States, 13 youth die as a result of homicide. In Ohio, guns were used in 83% of homicides with older teens and 70% of homicides with younger teens (Centers for Disease Control). Gun violence hardly ever happens out of nowhere in that there are typically warning signs before the shootings. This workshop takes an exploratory look at the dynamics of Gun Violence that includes the root causes, the risk factors vs. protective factors of Youth who live by the gun, effects on the individual, and community and strategies to engage youth to cease fire and increase the peace.
