Ethics & Self-Care in Child Welfare

About the Course

Child welfare professionals carry heavy emotional and physical loads, and that weight affects more than personal wellness. Burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma can quietly compromise judgment and ethical decision-making. This session connects ethical practice and self-care as two sides of the same responsibility and gives participants job-embedded and system-level strategies to protect their well-being in line with their professional values.

Learning Objectives

1. Explain the two-way relationship between ethical practice and self-care.
2. Identify how burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma compromise ethical decision-making and professional effectiveness in high-stress environments.
3. Apply job-embedded and systemic self-care strategies that protect emotional, physical, and social wellness in alignment with ethical values.
