About the Course
This workshop is designed to provide foster parents with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to support children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse. The workshop will focus on understanding the impacts of sexual abuse, promoting healing, and creating a safe and supportive environment for survivors. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical examples, foster parents will gain a deeper understanding of the unique needs of these young survivors and develop skills to be effective allies in their healing journey.
Learning Objectives
1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the impacts of sexual abuse on children and youth, including the emotional, behavioral, and developmental effects. Foster parents will gain knowledge about trauma-informed practices and the importance of providing a safe and supportive environment for survivors.
2. Gain practical strategies and communication techniques for supporting children and youth who are sexual abuse survivors. Foster parents will learn how to validate the experiences of survivors, establish trust, and utilize trauma-informed approaches to promote healing and empowerment.
3. Enhance the ability to create a healing-centered environment by understanding the importance of self-care for foster parents themselves, as well as strategies for creating a trauma-informed home that supports the healing of survivors. Foster parents will learn how to collaborate with professionals and access appropriate resources to ensure the holistic well-being of children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse.
