Understanding Critical Incident Stress for Foster Parents

About the Course

Critical Incident Stress occurs when a person experiences stress that is so intense that it overwhelms their typical coping abilities. Foster parents could experience a myriad of critical stress inducing events like the loss of a child, serious accident of a child, or disturbing behaviors of a trauma exposed child.

This workshop deals with self-care strategies to help foster parents effectively respond to a critical incident stress event that may occur in the foster home. We will discuss what can be done within the first 24 hours of a critical incident, warning signs and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress, and ongoing interventions to help the healing process for the entire family
